About the Crazy 8s template
When your team needs to solve a tough problem, the best way to start is by generating a lot of ideas. The Crazy 8s template is a classic design sprint method that pushes your team to produce a wide range of concepts in a short amount of time. It’s a high-energy exercise that helps you move past the usual solutions and uncover unexpected possibilities in Miro’s collaborative innovation workspace.
How to use the Crazy 8s template
Set the stage. Each participant chooses a personal board space. Assign yourself by dragging your image to the selected board or using the image placeholder.
Start the clock. Set a timer for eight minutes. The goal is to spend one minute on each of the eight frames, adding one idea per frame using sticky notes, sketches, or doodles. When the minute is up, move on to the next idea, focusing on quantity over quality.
Share and vote. When the time is up, each person takes a turn to quickly present their eight ideas. Use dot votes to identify the team's favorite concepts.
Visualize and decide. Drop the top-voted ideas into the designated area and press "run" to automatically visualize the concept as a sketch. From there, your team can discuss the refined ideas and decide which ones to move forward. You can also automatically generate a shareable summary of the activity and create a backlog for further exploration.
Why use the Crazy 8s template?
Break through creative blocks. The strict time limit forces you to quiet your inner critic and put ideas on the canvas without overthinking them.
Democratize ideation. This method gives every team member an equal voice, ensuring that great ideas can come from anyone, regardless of their role.
Generate dozens of ideas in minutes. In just eight minutes, a team of five people can generate 40 unique concepts, creating a rich foundation for your next project.
Automate your workflow. Instantly turn top-voted ideas into visual sketches, generate activity summaries, and create a backlog with the press of a button, streamlining the transition from ideation to action.
Create alignment quickly. The process of sharing and voting on ideas builds a shared understanding of the problem and the potential paths forward.
