Team Building Activity: "The Zoo"

Objective

Encourage team members to reflect on their personal characteristics and share insights with the group, fostering deeper understanding and connection.

Materials Needed

  • A list of 10 different animals (with brief descriptions if needed). You have this in the Board.

  • Pens and paper (optional for note-taking)

Instructions

Preparation

Before the activity begins, prepare a list of 10 different animals. Ensure that each animal represents a variety of traits.

Introduction

Gather the team and explain the objective of the activity: to choose an animal that they feel best represents their personality or the qualities they admire, and then share their choice and reasoning with the group.

Selection

Provide each participant with the list of animals. Give them a few minutes to reflect on their choice and select the animal that resonates most with them.

Optionally, they can write down their choice and jot down a few reasons for their selection in the miro board.

Sharing

Once everyone has made their selection, ask each participant to take turns sharing their chosen animal with the group.

Encourage them to explain why they chose that particular animal and how they relate to its characteristics. They might share personal anecdotes, traits they admire, or ways they feel similar to the animal.

Discussion

After each participant has shared, facilitate a group discussion. Encourage team members to ask questions or make positive comments about each other's choices.

Highlight the diversity of traits within the team and discuss how these various characteristics can complement each other and contribute to the team's success.

Reflection

Conclude the activity by asking participants to reflect on what they learned about their teammates. Discuss how understanding these traits can improve teamwork, communication, and collaboration.

Tips for Success

  • Ensure a supportive and open environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing.

  • Emphasize that there are no right or wrong choices; the focus is on personal reflection and sharing.

  • Encourage active listening and respectful feedback during the sharing and discussion phases.

This activity helps team members gain insights into their own and each other’s personalities, fostering a stronger and more cohesive team.
