Wardley Mapping is a popular method for visualizing a situation, which allows people to challenge underlying assumptions and learn about how to do things better. It is used by many organizations globally to address a wide range of common challenges: from product development to project management, from operational improvements to team development, and from unlocking innovation to creating strategic moves rivals struggle to respond to.  

This simplified Wardley Maps template is for those new to the method and who want to get started quickly.  It walks you through three key steps: identifying which user needs you should map, what is needed to create value for those users, and, with the aid of a simplified mapping canvas (showing three stages of evolution rather than four), quickly answer the question what your organization should outsource, should buy or should build itself.
