Impact Network
Impact Network (iNet) Template
This template helps you map cause-and-effect relationships among metrics, initiatives, or factors using the Impact Network (iNet) framework from Impact Intelligence by Sriram Narayan. It’s designed to turn complex systems into visual, navigable diagrams.
What you’ll accomplish
Visualize how metrics influence one another
Distinguish leading vs. trailing indicators
Reveal negative (inverse) relationships clearly
Identify high-leverage leverage points for intervention
Foster shared understanding of systemic dynamics across teams
Who this is for
This template is ideal for:
Product & growth teams exploring metric dependencies
Business strategists modeling systemic impacts
Data & analytics teams illustrating metric flows
Coaches, facilitators, and systems thinkers leading group modeling sessions
How to use it
Start with the “Start here” panel to understand the conventions.
Review the Examples (e-commerce & video streaming) to see how iNets are built in practice.
Use the Conventions & Legend (you may move or copy them into your frame) so viewers can decode your diagram.
Create your diagram:
Add nodes (metrics, initiatives, categories)
Connect them using arrows (positive, negative, dashed, etc.)
Include indicators inside arrows when needed
Iterate with colleagues: update links, test hypotheses, refine visual logic
Use the visual as a living tool for discussion, planning, and tracking
Tips & best practices
Keep node labels short and clear
Use consistent color and shape conventions (as defined in the Legend)
Group related areas visually
Don’t overcomplicate — start with core relationships and expand
Copy the Legend into your working frame so collaborators always have a reference
