Data Viz Dashboard Discovery

A Dashboard is a comprehensive collection of charts and data visualizations that helps end users answer their business questions.

A key first step for a successful dashboard project is to have a Discovery Session. Here the dashboard developer, data subject matter experts, power end-users, and other stakeholders can brainstorm and identify the vision, goals, scope, audience, data, etc. together.

This template helps guide that conversation. Section 1 (Who, Why, and Data) helps the team think holistically about the business questions and data. Section 2 (Wishes and Story/User Experience) lets the team think outside the box while also discussing design with realistic functionality. Section 3 (How, Likes, and Changes) apply if there is already an existing dashboard and helps the team brainstorm ways to improve.
