What is a community onboarding map?

A community onboarding map is a visual way to plot out the new member journey from start to finish. It's your blueprint for delivering an intentional and seamless experience to new community members—detailing the steps a new member needs to take to start engaging meaningfully in the community.

How to use this template:

Use this template to plot out an onboarding map for your community. It can be helpful to start by defining the beginning and ending of the onboarding journey. Consider what happens immediately after a member joins—what's the first thing they see or interact with? Then, consider what a successfully onboarded member looks like—what final action signals that they're engaging in a meaningful way?

From there, plot out the intermediary steps: So, what actions do members need to take to get from point A to point B? Then, consider what onboarding touchpoints you can introduce into the journey to encourage new members to take those actions.

Use the sticky notes to add notes to your onboarding map, or indicate when a step in the map involves.
